Rules Window

The Rules window allows users to enter, edit, and assign production rate Rules to Tasks and Resources. Rules are used to compute Physical Quantity Dependent task durations. For tasks with Fixed duration, if a Rule and Physical Quantity are assigned to the task, SYNCHRO can calculate the Estimated Rate needed to to accomplish the given Physical Quantity in the given Duration.

The Rules window is docked in the main window next to Gantt and Resource by default, but can be undocked and relocated if desired by dragging the Rules tab.

If you accidentally close this window, you can re-open it from the Windows Ribbon:

To enter a new Rule, simply begin typing in the Description or Rate cells. A rule ID will automatically be created according to the defaults in Options>Defaults for New Objects>Rules

Choose the Unit/Hour for the Rate from the drop-down menu. The Unit/Hour value must be the same the Physical Quantity Unit of the task in order for Duration and/or Estimated Rate to be calculated.

Rules can also have a tree structure (ie. parent/child relationship). If relevant, the Rule's Parent Rule ID will be listed in that column. To add a child rule, right click a rule and select Add from the context menu

The Rules window context (right click) menu is as below:

Add - If no Rule is selected, adds a new Rule at the root level; if a Rule is selected, the new rule will be added as a child.

Rename - Enables edit mode in Description cell. Alternatively press F2

Delete - Deletes any selected Rules

Cut - Cuts the selected Rule to be pasted in a different location

Copy - Copies all selected Rules

Paste - Pastes copied Rule(s)

Paste As Text - Pastes text

Fill Down - Use the Fill Down command to copy a value from a single parameter to any number of selected non-contiguous rows

Select All - Selects all rule

(Re)assign IDs - Opens the (Re)assign IDs dialog to edit or assign the IDs of the selected Rules

Filters - Provides a quick way to create a Column Filter that Equals or Does Not Equal selected cell value and to clear all filters

Collapse/Expand - Collapse All will close any open branches, whereas Collapse Branch will only collapse a single selected branch. The Collapse/Expand Branch options are greyed out unless a branch parent is selected. Collapse Parent can be used to collapse the branch above the selected item

Assign to Selected Task(s) - Assigns the selected Rule to one or more Selected Task(s) in the Gantt Chart

Assign to Selected Resources(s) - Assigns the selected Rule to one or more Selected Resources(s) in the Resource List

Find... - Opens the Find window to search for Rules by name.

Replace... Find and Replace in the selected column. Shortcut: Ctrl+H

Spell Check - Opens the Spell Check dialog to check and correct spelling in the Rules table

Right click in the table header to access the following menu:

Sort...

The Sort dialog can be used to sort the table by any visible columns. Right click in the column header area to access the context menu and select Sort to access the dialog.

1.	Click Add to insert a new row. From the new row, select the parameter to be sort by from the Sort by drop down menu. Only columns visible in the table are available in the drop-down menu.

NOTE: To add additional columns to the table, use Customise Columns

2.	Choose the desired Order: Ascending or Descending

3.	Use the Up and Down buttons to change the order of the parameter to be sorted by. Items at the top of the list will be sorted first

4.	Use the Remove button to remove the selected parameter from the list. Use the Remove All button to start over again.

5.	Press OK to save and exit the dialog

TIP: Any sorting that was applied via left clicking in the table column headers will be pre-populated in the Sort dialog when opened and can be edited.

Filters

Right click in the header of the column you wish to filter by and select Custom Filter... to open the Filter dialog

To remove a column filter, right click in the header of the desired column and select Clear Filter

Clear All Filters removes custom Filters from ALL columns

Conditional Formatting

Conditional formatting allows data cells to be coloured according to their value for quick visual inspection of relative values on a scale, categorical values, or outliers.

Justification

Right click in the header of the column you wish to edit Justification and select Left, Centre, or Right to format the text in the column
