Windows>Resource Usage Graph

The Resource Usage Graph Window displays the assignment of Resource in a time period.

The Resource Usage Graph window is part of the Gantt Window and shares a horizontal splitter bar with the Gantt chart, This can be repositioned to provide more area for the Usage Graph or the Gantt chart Window by moving the mouse over the splitter (and when an up/down arrow cursor is shown) left-clicking and holding down and moving up or down.

Opening the Resource Usage Graph

To display the Resource Usage Graph Window (in the Gantt Window, below the Gantt chart), select Analyse>Resources>Resource Usage Graph

·The visible time period can be zoomed in/out by a mouse wheel scroll either in this Window or when zooming the Gantt chart Window.
·Use Rate Values (see Navigator->Resource->General) are displayed in utilisation percentage on the Y axis, time is displayed on the X axis.
·Utilisation can be displayed for single companies, single/multiple Tasks and/or single/multiple Resources.
·Line colour for a resource is set either automatically (by default) or can be selected in Resource Properties -> General tab for each resource individually.
·Limit line (black dotted line) for a resource is drawn taking into account Available Quantity parameter for the resource.
·If multiple resources are shown utilisation is in % and the limit is normalized to 100% for all the resources.

Navigating the Resource Usage Graph Window

The following context menu is available with the Resource Usage Graph Window:

Task(s) - Resource Usage can be displayed for All Tasks, Selected Task(s) or Filtered Task(s) as shown in Task table.

Resource(s) - Choose which Resources should be displayed in the Graph: All, Selected, Filtered. Only Resources of the selected Type(s) (Human, Equipment, Material, Location) will be included

NOTE:Zoom may exclude visibility of all resources. If this is the case then using the mouse wheel, with cursor over the Window rotate back or forward to zoom in/out.

Show Legend - toggle display of the Legend on or off

Options - Opens the following dialog to control display of the graph

Utilisation Graph Options>General

Tasks - Resource Usage can be displayed for All Tasks, Selected Task(s) or Filtered Task(s) as shown in Task table. For example you may wish to show Resource Usage for a certain location or scope of work only

Resources - Resource Usage can be displayed for

·All Resources by Type
·Selected Resource(s) by Type
·Filtered Resource(s) by Type as shown in the Resources table using Column Filters
·Select the Types of Resources to be included

Utilisation Graph Options>Data

Presentation Mode

·Compare Resources - the value of the histogram or curve for each resource is independent to allow comparison of values between resources
·Stack Resources - For Histograms - the bar for the resources are stacked in each timescale step; For Curves - the resource usage value is the difference between each curve. The top-most curve shows the total Usage for all displayed resources
·Sum Resources - The total Usage for all displayed resources is summed to one Histogram or Curve

Values - Choose which Resource Usage parameter should be used in the graphs: Planned Utilisation, Actual Utilisation, Remaining Utilisation, or Utilisation at Completion

·When Compare Resources or Stack Resources is chosen for Presentation mode, only one parameter may be shown at a time
·When Sum Resources is chosen for Presentation Mode, choose one or more Values to include and choose the color to use

Show Legend - toggle display of the Legend on or off

Utilisation Graph Options>Histogram(s)

Data

·Nothing (disable histogram(s)) - No histograms; choose this option if you want to show only a Curve
·Percentage of Available Units - Resource Usage as a percentage of the Resource's Available Units (Resource Properties>General)
·Resource Count - Resource Usage as a Count (eg. headcount, pieces of equipment)
·Units - Resource Usage in units (e.g. man-hours or machine-hours)
·Units (cumulative) - Resource Usage up to the given date (e.g. man-hours or machine-hours)
·Units/Time - Resource Usage per timescale period (e.g. man-hours/week)
·Show as percentage of assigned volume - Divide the usage in that period (Resource Count, Units, Units/Time) by the total assigned usage for all concurrent tasks

Timescale - Choose the bin size for the histogram

Hide bars in non-working periods - Do not show bars on non-working periods (nights, weekends) for Units (cumulative)

Utilisation Graph Options>Curve(s)

Data

·Nothing (disable histogram(s)) - No curves; choose this option if you want to show only Histograms
·Percentage of Available Units - Resource Usage as a percentage of the Resource's Available Units (Resource Properties>General)
·Resource Count - Resource Usage as a Count (eg. headcount, pieces of equipment)
·Units (cumulative) - Resource Usage up to the given date
·Units/Time - Resource Usage per timescale period
·Show as percentage of assigned volume - Divide the usage in that period (Resource Count, Units, Units/Time) by the total assigned usage for all concurrent tasks

TIP: The Data option for Histograms and Curves can be different. For example, measure Units/Time for Histograms, and Units (Cumulative) for Curves
